Poland Vs. Greece, Euro 2012: Both Teams Down To 10 Men, Greece Miss Penalty

With Poland up 1-0 against a defensive 10-man Greece side at halftime, it was fair to assume that Poland would coast to an uneventful 1-0 or 2-0 victory. Greece looked like they had no ideas, and they were (and still are) short on central defenders. The second half has been anything but boring, however, as the game has exploded to life. Greece's 50th minute equalizer has been followed up by a sending off for Poland, taking both teams down to 10 men.

Wojciech Szczesny picked up a red card in the 69th minute, tripping substitute Konstantinos Fortounis in the penalty area. That forced Poland into a substitution, with backup goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton entering the game for Maciej Rybus. Greece captain Giorgos Karagounis stepped up to the spot and tried to place a shot into the lower right corner, but didn't hit his shot accurately or with much power, and Tyton was able to get down to make a massive save.

The final 15 minutes of the game should be wide open now that both teams are down to 10 men. Neither team is obviously in the ascendancy, and based on what’s happened so far in the second half, nothing would be surprising.
