Mexico Vs. Guyana, 2012 CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying: What Is A Guyana?

They are actually one of the 12 best teams in North America and the Caribbean. Even though they’re technically in South America. They beat out 2006 World Cup qualifiers and regular hexagonal-makers Trinidad and Tobago to make it this far. Really.
About half of Guyana’s team plays domestically, with some of their other top players plying their trade in Trinidad and Tobago and Puerto Rico. Seriously, a team whose best players play for average teams in Trinidad and Tobago beat out Trinidad and Tobago. I can’t get over how ridiculous this is.

The USMNT should still steamroll them. In what will likely be an even bigger steamrolling, Mexico play Guyana. In matches that might actually have some bearing on who gets to the hexagonal, Costa Rica plays El Salvador, Honduras plays Panama and Jamaica plays Guatemala.
