Guyana has made it to the third round of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying. Yes, Guyana. They are actually one of the 12 best teams in North America and the Caribbean. Even though they’re technically in South America. They beat out 2006 World Cup qualifiers and regular hexagonal-makers Trinidad and Tobago to make it this far. Really.

On Friday, poor Guyana faces Mexico, who have gone to the knockout stages of five consecutive World Cups. This is probably going to be a slaughter. Hopefully, Chepo de la Torre's boys are nice to them.
About half of Guyana’s team plays domestically, with some of their other top players plying their trade in Trinidad and Tobago and Puerto Rico. Seriously, a team whose best players play for average teams in Trinidad and Tobago beat out Trinidad and Tobago. I can’t get over how ridiculous this is.
Now, they face guys like Chicharito and Rafael Marquez in front of a massive sea of green at Estadio Azteca. It's a cool experience for them, at least. Mexico will probably score in the opening minute.
