Nottingham Forest have new owners as Fawaz, Abdulaziz and Omar Al-Hasawi have officially taken control of the Championship side. The trio have released a statement confirming their purchase, pledging to bring the glory days back to the two-time European Champions, who’ve been out of the top flight since 1999 and finished 19th in the Championship last season:

It is an honour and a privilege for the Al-Hasawi Family to assume control of this great Club steeped in history and with the outstanding legacy left by its previous owner Nigel Doughty. We know there are challenging times ahead of us to bring the Club back to its glory days and we look forward with excitement towards a new successful future.

Forest had been put up for sale by Doughty in late 2011, but his unexpected death on February 4th of this year has delayed the buy until now. The Al-Hasawi family will introduce themselves as new owners on July 14th during a press conference at City Ground. It remains to be seen just how they’re planning to overhaul the squad and restore the club into genuine candidates for promotion after a disastrous season, but more money will probably help.
