The MLS First XI for next week’s All-Star Game had already been chosen by the fans, who predictably chose many of the league’s stars, but the team was not yet complete. The team still needed seven more players.
MLS All-Star Team Chosen For Match Versus Chelsea
It has those players now that the team’s manager, Ben Olsen, and league commissioner Don Garber made their selections to fill out the 18-man roster.
Olsen got to make five of the selections, choosing Osvaldo Alonso, Kyle Beckerman, Dan Kennedy, Chris Pontius and Eddie Johnson. Garber then added Ramiro Corrales and Carlos Valdes.
The MLS All-Star team will take on the European champions Chelsea July 25 at PPL Park. The game will be televised live in the United States on ESPN.
Goalkeeper: Dan Kennedy (Chivas USA), Jimmy Nielsen (Sporting Kansas City).
Defenders: Steven Beitashour (San Jose Earthquakes), Aurelien Collin (Sporting Kansas City), Ramiro Corrales (San Jose Earthquakes), Jay DeMerit (Vancouver Whitecaps), Heath Pearce (New York Red Bulls), Carlos Valdes (Philadelphia Union).
Midfielders: Osvaldo Alonso (Seattle Sounders), Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), David Beckham (LA Galaxy), Dwayne De Rosario (D.C. United), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City).
Forwards: Thierry Henry (New York Red Bulls), Eddie Johnson (Seattle Sounders), Chris Pontius (D.C. United), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes).
