Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany will be remaining with the club for the forseeable future (unless you're working in plate tectonics or astronomy or something) after signing a six-year contract extension through the 2017/18 season. The Belgian centre back, who led the club to their first title in 44 years last season and is widely regarded as one of the top defenders in the world, has been rewarded for being with the City revolution from the beginning:

I have been here since the beginning and I have seen everything at the club change inside and out. I have the feeling that I have contributed to it too. It is good to know that I can be at City for another six years. It is a compliment that the club feels so highly of me.
Hopefully in the future I will have a bigger impact than I already have. I am good here. The fans have given me an incredible reception which is one of the main reasons that I signed this new deal. My family is happy and there are so many more trophies to win at this club that is why it makes it so special.
Kompany will be 32 by the time his new contract (at presumably vastly increased wages), but for a defender of his stature it’s a very reasonable deal for City. Who’d have thought that a £6M Belgian out of Hamburg would be the most important signing that the club, known for its recent lavish spending on superstars, could make?
