Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed former Chelsea and Porto boss Andre Villas-Boas as their new head coach on Tuesday, according to an official club statement. The on again, off again rumours had been swirling for weeks now, but they've finally come to an end now that 'AVB' has signed a three-year deal. The 34-year-old, who replaces Harry Redknapp, was unveiled today on their website, and was overflowing with praise for his new club:
Andre Villas-Boas Joins Tottenham Hotspur
Former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has joined cross-town rivals Tottenham Hotspur on the three-year contract.

Tottenham Hotspur is a great club with a strong tradition and fantastic support, both at home and throughout the world. I feel privileged to be its coach. For me, this is one of the most exciting coaching positions in the Premier League. I have had several discussions with the Chairman and the Board and I share their vision for the future progress of the Club. This is a squad any coach would love to work with and together I believe we can bring success in the seasons ahead.
It’s hard to tell whether this is a great move or a disaster waiting to happen. Villas-Boas, always a clever tactician was brilliant at Porto, able to get players motivated enough to win the Europa League as well as play an undefeated Primeira Liga season. But his time at Chelsea was a catastrophe - the young manager was sacked before completing his full season after clashes with senior players and poor results made his situation untenable.
If Spurs can use the Chelsea collapse to get the man who conquered Portugal, they’re in excellent shape. But with Villas-Boas’s reputation now tarnished in England, the first sign of Chelsea-esque slipups could lead to some trouble.
