The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended the Vancouver Whitecaps' Gershon Koffie, the Montreal Impact's Hassoun Camara and the San Jose Earthquakes' Victor Bernardez one match each for their actions over the weekend. Koffie and Bernardez were disciplined for bad challenges, while Camara's suspension was for throwing Steven Lenhart down and going after the Quakes player.
Gershon Koffie, Hassoun Camara and Victor Bernardez Suspended By Disciplinary Committee
Bad tackles by Gershon Koffie and Victor Bernardez and violent conduct by Hassoun Camara earned all three one-match suspensions.
Koffie had the worst challenge of the weekend, if it could be called a challenge. It was more of a reckless kick. Koffie lifted his leg and exposed his studs on a ball in the air, kicking Andy Rose in the chest. Somehow, he was only shown a yellow card, a decision made all the more crazy by the Sounders' Tuesday injury report that lists Rose out with a rib fracture. Koffie also earned a fine for giving Jeff Parke the middle finger.
Bernardez's tackle that earned him a suspension wasn't as bad, but still worthy of a suspension. It was an awful tackle on Lamar Neagle that could have seriously injured the Impact player.
In that same match, Camara got upset with Lenhart, who has a knack for getting under his opponents’ skin. Camara then pulled Lenhart to the ground and chased after him with a finger in Lenhart’s face. Both he and Lenhart earned matching red cards for the altercation and now Camara has another match tacked onto the one-match suspension he already had coming for the red card.
