West Ham United may only have finished third in the Championship last season, but they made a splash in the opening weekend by beating Aston Villa 1-0 at Upton Park and are continuing to upgrade their squad in the hopes of remaining in the Premier League this year. Now the Hammers have confirmed the acquisition of Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Matt Jarvis for a club-record fee, believed to be in the region of £11M.

Relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers have lost another key player, this time seeing Matt Jarvis depart for West Ham United.
West Ham manager Sam Allardyce is thrilled to have signed a man considered to be one of the best pure wingers in the league, producing the most Allardyce quote I've seen in quite some time:
Certainly from an attacking sense he is one of the best final-third crossers in the Premier League and his stats were very good at Wolverhampton Wanderers. He delivers in the business end of the field and creates a lot of chances and is a player that can give opposition defences an awful lot of trouble. We are hoping he will produce that for us.
Regardless of whether you want to delve into the jargon (are there non-final-third crossers?), Jarvis is a fine player, and although his contributions weren’t enough to keep Wolves from going down last season, he’ll definitely help the Hammers out this year. It looks like they’ve built a squad strong enough to stay up.
