Santiago Cazorla has been a bright spark for the Gunners, but has also been the only player to seriously test Asmir Begovic's goal, with a pair of strikes from the edge of the area the closest the North Londoners have come to breaking the deadlock, with Olivier Giroud largely snuffed out by the Stoke defence.
The game has not been entirely one-way traffic, however, with new Potters signing Michael Kightly producing a good save from Vito Mannone. Stoke have, as befits their reputation, mostly been restricted to aerial bombardment, with new signing Geoff Cameron appearing to have taken over from Rory Delap as the long-throw specialist, but a fine performance from Per Mertesacker has so far been able to deal with the threat posed by the USA international.
