Queens Park Rangers have announced that they have signed Esteban Granero from Real Madrid, subject to a medical.

The club tweeted on their official account that “It’s not usually QPR policy to comment on potential new signings prior to the deals being complete” but that the early announcement was “at the request of Real Madrid and to keep QPR fans in the know.”

The midfielder had come through the youth ranks at Real Madrid and had been a squad player for a number of years, and was sold to Getafe but quickly brought back to the Bernabeu in 2009 after the Madrid club exercised their buy-back option. Now, however, Los Merengues appear to have finally decided that it is time for the 25-year-old, who can play anywhere across the midfield, to move on.

Granero has been selected for the Spanish team at all youth levels, but is yet to receive a full international cap for his country.
