Reports from the Guardian are indicating that Manchester United centre forward Dimitar Berbatov is set on a move to London, with Fulham securing the services of the Bulgarian after strong competition from Serie A sides Fiorentina and Juventus. Berbatov, 31, is already taking his medical, according to Cottagers manager Martin Jol:

For good players you have to pay good money. There were a lot of clubs interested in Dimitar but we were able and capable of getting him. He is finishing his medical and, if everything is good, he will be one of our players.
Jol is referencing Berbatov's high wages -- the striker comes with a relatively low transfer fee of £5 million because he's on a contract that pays him a reported £110,000 per week. That's normally well outside of Fulham's price range, so it'll be interesting to see the deal Berbatov eventually signs. With Robin van Persie joining United, there was no place at Old Trafford for the Premier League's 2010/11 top scorer. Fulham, clearly, are the beneficiaries.
If Berbatov's form for the Cottagers is anything like it was for the Red Devils two seasons ago, it'll go a long way to replacing the contributions of Clint Dempsey, who's expected to leave before the transfer window closes. Not a bad deal.
