Manchester City Sign Benfica’s Javi Garcia

Manchester City have confirmed that they have signed Javi Garcia from Benfica on a four-year deal.

Manchester City have completed the signing of Javi Garcia from Benfica for a fee in the region of £16m.

The Spanish International midfielder has signed a four-year deal, and will wear the number 16 shirt at the Etihad Stadium after a deal was agreed with minutes to spare before the transfer window ended.

Garcia, the cousin of former Liverpool star Luis Garcia, started his career at Real Madrid before joining Osasuna in 2007. After he helped save the club from relegation, he was brought back to Los Merengues after the club exercised their buy-back clause. He then moved on to Benfica, where he became an integral component of the side that won the Portuguese Title, along with players such as Chelsea's Ramires and Madrid's Angel Di Maria.

The deal is the last in a trio of signings made by Manchester City on deadline day, after they earlier moved to sign Swansea's Scott Sinclair and 34-year-old goalkeeper Richard Wright.
