Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has signed a new contract, the club has confirmed. The 25-year-old Uruguay international, who has now featured in fifty matches for the Reds, was recently linked to a move away thanks to the pressures imposed upon him by the British media and fans, who've done their best to turn him into a pantomime villain. Admittedly, that's at least partially to do with the myriad villainous things Suarez has done, but he does seemed to get picked on a lot.

To sign a new contract with Liverpool is unbelievable for me because I am so happy here at both the club and also in the city. That is important for me and I am very happy with my new contract. When you are a kid, everybody wants to play for Liverpool. I am here now and it is a dream for me, and now I am a Liverpool fan. I am happy off the pitch because the people of Liverpool are good with me and my family. I try my best on the pitch and when you are happy off the pitch, you are happy on the pitch.
That’s good news for Liverpool, because despite his foibles, he’s their most dangerous attacking player by some distance, and losing him would have been fairly disastrous. It’s a good move for new manager Brendan Rodgers, although there’s still much work to be done in overhauling the squad as the Reds attempt to return to the Premier League’s top four.
