Fulham have moved to sign free agent midfielder Giorgos Karagounis, the club have confirmed on Tuesday. With both Clint Dempsey and Moussa Dembele missing, the Cottagers clearly needed some further reinforcements, and the only option they had after the close of the transfer deadline was in the free agent market. In 35-year-old Karagounis, they did about as best as they could.

Giorgos Karagounis has a wealth of club and international experience and I’m happy that he’s joined us for this season. He’s been an influential player for his club sides and is a renowned player in world football as he’s about to become the most-capped player for Greece. He brings many certain qualities to our squad.

Those qualities are presumably ‘being quite old’ and being ‘pretty good at football despite it’. Karagounis isn’t going to make or break the fortunes of Fulham this season, but he’ll give them a reliable rotational option who’s already demonstrated his profound leadership abilities with his national team. Not a bad pick-up at all.
