However, Cagliari president Massimo Cellino took manners into his own hands, subverting local authorities and inviting season ticket holders to attend the match despite concerns. Amid fears that fans would turn restless when sent away from the match, authorities suspended the game.
Roma Awarded 3-0 Win Against Cagliari
Roma have been awarded all three points against Cagliari after their match on Sunday was suspended, due to Cagliari’s decision to invite supporters to a game scheduled to be played behind closed doors.
Now, visiting Roma has been awarded a 3-0 win -- undoubtedly the easiest three points they’ll secure all season. Because the suspension was due to the actions of Cagliari rather than outside interference, the decision was made to give the win to the giallorossi rather than force a replay. Cagliari may also face further punishment, including even more matches played behind closed doors, or even a deduction in points. With just two points on the board thus far this season, Cellino’s actions could seriously hamper the rossoblu staying in Serie A.
