In order to celebrate Lionel Messi's fourth Ballon d'Or award in four years, adidas have created another custom pair of boots for their star man. They are, of course, his usual adidas f50 adiZero boots but with a brand new upper design that strays from the usual look.
Lionel Messi gets a custom-designed pair of boots to celebrate his latest trophy
adidas have changed their design game around a bit in order celebrate Lionel Messi’s latest achievement. The Ballon d’Or winner is getting a bespoke present from the sportswear giants.

The boots are a stark black and gold, much different than just about anything that Messi has worn in the past. They feature an asymmetrical design with four golden “Sun of May” symbols, inspired by the flag of Argentina, with the year of each award inside. The right foot calls out 2009-2011 in three smaller graphics while his favored left foot brings the 2012 award front-and-center.
The best part of this celebration of footballing master class? The fans have a chance to win a pair. All you have to do is follow @TeamMessi on Twitter and retweet one of their contest tweets. The winners will be announced on Monday.
While you’re trying to win your own pair, you should watch Richard Swarbrick’s excellent animation commemorating the award, below.
