West Ham United sign Wellington Paulista on loan from Cruzeiro

West Ham United have signed Cruzeiro striker Wellington Paulista on loan for six months as they continue their January shopping.

West Ham United have made another January signing after announcing the transfer of Wellington Paulista on a 6-month loan deal from Brazilian club Cruzeiro.

Paulista, a striker, has an impressive record of 29 goals in 54 appearances for Cruzeiro in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A after he joined them from Botafogo in 2009. It is believed that West Ham have the option of signing him on a three-year contract during the deal.

The signing leaves West Ham well stocked for forwards, with Carlton Cole, Andy Carroll, Modibo Maiga and Ricardo Vaz Te already at the club and Marouane Chamakh also having joined on loan in the January transfer window. Despite that, Paulista's versatility and ability to operate across the front line should ensure he at least gets a chance at the club.

The signing is West Ham's fourth of the window, after securing Joe Cole from Liverpool, Chamakh from Arsenal, and youngster Sean Maguire from Waterford United.
