It was a comfortable fixture throughout for the nerazzurri, who controlled the game easily after the opening minutes of sparring concluded. Their first half chance came after five minutes, when Rodrigo Palacio was sent through by Fredy Guarínn, though the Argentine pulled his shot wide.

Inter Milan slowly but surely began to push Pescara back, and when the opening goal finally came, it had been inevitable. The division's joint-worst defence became the division's worst defence entirely when Palacio struck the ball on the turn into the corner of the net, firing his side into the lead after half-an-hour.
By half-time the game should have been over, when Jonathan was slipped through after a marauding run from wing-back. But, he dragged the ball back across the face of goal evading everyone, as Pescara clung onto what little hope they had remaining.
It was hope which had completely evaporated ten minutes after the restart, when scorer Palacio turned provider for Guarín, rolling the ball across the box for the Colombian to slot into what was effectively an open goal -- squeezing every last drop of tension from the game in the process, as the neutrals turned off in droves.
What followed was fairly routine and not overly noteworthy, other than the Inter debut of 35-year-old Tommaso Rocchi, who amazed onlookers by proving that he could still run. With Pescara creating the odd half-chance and pushing forward in a vain attempt to grab a goal, Inter looked dangerous on the counter-attack, though mainly through the good work of goalkeeper Mattia Perin -- who make a smart diving save to deny Álvaro Pereira with ten minutes remaining -- no further damage was inflicted.
