Horse in Norwich City scarf appears at Carrow Road

A horse turned up at Carrow Road today in a Norwich City scarf. It was the most exciting thing to happen in Norwich for years.

Jamie McDonald

To shatter the illusion of some of our American readers whose main conception of England rests on the glitz and glamous of the Premier League: large parts of old Blighty are interminably dull. Norwich is one such place, cast out on the lonely east, in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by miles and miles of flat fields and hedges, a town most famous for mustard where there’s nothing to do but sit around hating Ipswich all day.

On the 22nd of January, 2013, however, all that changed when a horse turned up at Carrow Road unannounced. There appears to be no background or context to this - a horse just showed up at Norwich’s ground, and that was that. The club’s official Twitter account kept us posted throughout this fascinating saga:

And that was that. Which is just as well, because we were approaching lunchtime and Grant Holt was looking particularly hungry.

Oh, and don’t bother, lots of people have already made the connection.
