Borussia Dortmund vs. Nürnburg: Final score 3-0, Der BVB roll

Jakub Blaszczykowski and Ilkay Gündogan were fantastic for Borussia Dortmund in their comfortable win over Nürnburg.

While their title hopes are already more or less dashed, Borussia Dortmund have plenty to play for in the league. They’re no lock to secure a Champions League place, but they solidified their standing in the league on Friday, comfortably defeating Nürnburg, 3-0.

The opening minutes of the match were wild, with Robert Lewandowski missing two good chances in the early minutes. Dortmund were almost made to pay for that in the 15th minute, when Roman Weidenfeller was forced into an impressive double save to keep the score level. Just two minutes later, Timo Gebhart took down Lukasz Piszczek in the box and Jakub Blaszczykowski converted the penalty. From then on, Dortmund were in control.

Kuba added a second goal two minutes after his penalty, this time from open play, assisted by Mario Götze. Dortmund battered the Nürnburg goal for the rest of the match, but couldn’t find a third goal to put the game away until the 90th minute, when Lewandowski turned in a pass by Marco Reus.

Though he didn’t notch a goal or an assist, Ilkay Gündogan was arguably the man of the match. He controlled play in midfield for Der BVB, completing well over 100 passes on the night.
