Ryan Shawcross signs new five-year deal at Stoke City
Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross has signed a new five-year contract, the club have confirmed.

The centre-back has been a key component of Stoke’s much-publicised defensive form this season, and had been linked with a number of bigger clubs as a potential transfer target. This afternoon, however, the club announced on their official website that Shawcross had signed a new deal.
The former Manchester United defender has become one of Tony Pulis' key players as the Potters have established themselves in the top flight and was made club captain as they continued their rise.
The defender has occasionally come in for criticism due to his uncompromising style, most notably when he was culpable for a serious injury to Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey, but his defensive form this season has been excellent, and Stoke will be relieved that the player has committed to the club despite rumoured interest from elsewhere.
