Victor Manuel Vucetich confirmed to ESPN that he has been relieved of his duties as Mexico manager. After a day in which multiple outlets reported that he would be replaced by Miguel Herrera, but the FMF refused to comment, Vucetich put to rest any speculation that he might stay in his role as Mexico manager. He did not say whether Herrera would replace him, but he is most certainly no longer in charge of El Tri.

There is no word on who the next Mexico manager will be, but Victor Manuel Vucetich has confirmed that he will no longer lead the team.

The FMF are ready to pin their World Cup hopes on Miguel Herrera “They’ve informed me that I’m out of the national team job,” Vucetich said. “I’m King Midas, not God. This is why we are where we are.”
Vucetich’s tenure as Mexico manager lasted all of two matches and the FMF’s decision to move on so quickly highlights many of the problems in the organization at the moment. Whoever next manages Mexico will be their fourth manager in five matches as the FMF tries to make the manager position as unstable as the team itself.
After Mexico spent years trying to woo Vucetich, he finally accepted the manager position and got a win against Panama thanks to a stupefying last minute bicycle kick by Raul Jimenez. But El Tri lost their next match to Costa Rica and are only still alive in World Cup qualification thanks to the United States. The Americans' stoppage-time equalizer against Panama allowed Mexico to stay in fourth place in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, which earns them a spot in the playoff against New Zealand.
That apparently is all the FMF needed to see to determine that he wasn’t the manager they wanted. Now they will reportedly turn to Club America manager Herrera to salvage things. El Tri have their two-legged playoff next month against the All Whites and if they win it to qualify for the World Cup, it is expected that Herrera will step down as America manager following the Apertura and manage Mexico full time beginning in December.
