Manchester City central defender Vincent Kompany has been substituted early with an injury for the second time this season. He had to exit in the first half against Everton, with Matija Nastasic replacing him.
Vincent Kompany injury: Manchester City defender exits early against Everton
Manchester City will be hoping that Vincent Kompany’s fitness isn’t becoming a long-term problem.
Kompany went off injured during City's first Premier League game of the season, against Newcastle on August 19. A groin injury kept him out of three Premier League matches before he made his return to the squad for a Champions League match against Viktoria Plzen. Since then, Kompany has played four matches for City, including Saturday's match against Everton. It's not apparent whether Kompany has reaggravated his previous groin injury or picked up a new injury.
The good news for City is that they now have Joleon Lescott and Nastasic healthy. In two of the three games that Kompany missed, Manuel Pellegrini had to turn to defensive midfielder Javi Garcia as a makeshift central defender. He helped City keep a clean sheet against Stoke, but was also a big part of their 3-2 loss to Cardiff.
