Lionel Messi just can't seem to shake his fitness issues. The Barcelona forward came off injured against Real Betis on Sunday after appearing to pick up some sort of lower body injury. He stood still on the pitch for around five minutes as Barcelona readied a substitute and he attempted to shake off his injury, but he was replaced by Andres Iniesta in the 21st minute.
Lionel Messi injury: Barcelona forward substituted against Real Betis
Barcelona star Lionel Messi continues to be unlucky with lower-body injuries.
Messi has been plagued by hamstring injuries since last fall and hasn't quite shaken them. Because of World Cup qualifiers, he's probably played more minutes than the Barcelona training staff would like him to. He's also been extremely cautious with muscle injuries and has regularly come off as a precaution, then missed little to no time afterwards. However, he appeared to grab his left knee in this instance.
Barcelona will be hoping that Messi’s injury is a minor one, and if it is, he shouldn’t miss any time. International break is next week, and Argentina won’t need to risk Messi in friendlies, so he should get a solid two weeks of rest.
