Marseille will be without the services of Andre Ayew through the new year after the 23-year-old picked up an injury on international duty. The winger sustained a meniscus tear in the second half of Ghana's 2-1 loss to Egypt on Tuesday -- the Black Stars went through to the World Cup despite the result -- and he'll require surgery to fix the problem. Ayew will go under the knife next week and is expected to return in about eight weeks.
Andre Ayew injury will require surgery
Bad news for Marseille: Andre Ayew will be out for eight weeks after picking up a knee injury on international duty.

Ayew will therefore miss the rest of Marseilles’ group stage matches in the Champions League, but since OM are all but eliminated from even Europa League contention already, that’s not too much of a concern. More worrying is their position in Ligue 1 -- the team is currently in fifth place, well out of title contention and lagging some way behind the top three thanks to an awful run of form. And with Ayew out, it’ll probably get worse before it gets better.
