Shakhtar Donetsk vs. Borussia Dortmund: Time and TV schedule

Borussia Dortmund travels to the Ukraine to face Shakhtar Donetsk in the other Champions League match of the day.

Borussia Dortmund travel to the Ukraine to face a stiff challenge from Shakhtar Donetsk as they look to work with way in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

Dortmund were impressive in the group stages, topping a group that included Real Madrid and Manchester City. Not that it means anything in particular now but it should give Jurgen Klopp’s men some confidence. Dortmund’s hopes of retaining the Bundesliga title took another blow over the weekend as they suffered a bad loss at the hands of Hamburg. It’s becoming more and more apparent that if the Germans want to make a splash this season, it’ll have to be in the Champions League.

Shakhtar enter this first leg match at a distinct disadvantage having not played a competitive fixture since the final group stage match day (they lost to Juventus). They finished second in their group but were involved in knocking out defending champions Chelsea in the process.

There’s also the great equalizer of injuries working in Shakhtar’s favor as Dortmund will be missing several key players with injuries. Not all news is bad on the injury front for Dortmund though as center-back Neven Subotić is available after recovering from a cal injury.

Shakhtar Donetsk injuries and suspensions

Out: Ilsinho (knee). In doubt: Tomáš Hübschman (chickenpox).

Borussia Dortmund injuries and suspensions

Having not played since December, Shakhtar are mostly healthy with Ilsinho being the only injured player as he recovers from meniscus damage in his knee. Tomáš Hübschman is highly doubtful as he’s been stricken by the chickenpox. Gündoğan, Owomoyela and Grossbreutz did not travel with the team, while Schmelzer faces a fitness test to determine his availability.
