Everton once again were haunted by wasted chances as Norwich City roared back with two late goals to steal a victory away from the Toffees. Kei Kamara scored his first Premier League goal to tie the match and Grant Holt's short range shot gave Norwich the victory four minutes into stoppage time.
Norwich City vs. Everton: Final score 2-1, Canaries score twice in the final minutes to down the Toffees
Leon Osman scored right before halftime and Everton looked on their way to a win. That was until Kei Kamara scored his first Premier League with six minutes to play and Grant Holt scored on the last play of the game to give Norwich the come from behind victory.
Everton got off to a solid start but as is their habit, they failed to take advantage of their opportunities. Nikica Jelavic was especially active as Everton looked good in possession.
In the 3rd minute Steven Pienaar found Jelavic on the left side but the striker's cross into the box was easily handled by Mark Bunn.
Norwich got their first good chance of the game in the 6th minute when Robert Snodgrass got in between the Everton central defenders. HIs first touch was a little heavy, giving Sylvain Distin to time he needed to recover and block Snodgrass' shot with a nice sliding tackle.
Everton's first really good chance to score came in the 8th minute when Distin sent a long ball into the Norwich box that was brought down by Jelavic as he spun away from a defender. Jelavic turned and took a quick shot but Bunn had closed well and block away the effort.
Another good chance for Everton in the 29th minute when Leighton Baines whipped a free kick into the Norwich box and Jelavic and Bunn tangled, sending the goalkeeper to the ground. Referee Lee Mason determined there was no foul and allowed play to continue. Marouane Fellaini got to the ball in the scramble but his shot went well wide.
Fellaini was involved in an odd play in the 33rd minute when he tangled with Bradley Johnson in the Norwich half. Fellaini was clipped in the knee by Johnson’s studs but still won the ball, at least until Mason called him for a foul despite the fact the Belgian’s knee was covered in blood. Nothing came of the free kick but Fellaini was able to continue, though he was less than pleased with the referee.
Everton got a well deserved goal in the 39th minute thanks to some great passing between Fellaini and Pienaar. The South African winger found Baines out wide on the left and the English international sent a cross into the Norwich box. Two Canary defenders went for a clearance, leaving Leon Osman wide open for a header that he sent past Bunn to give Everton a 1-0 lead.
Norwich came close several times in the second half and just when it looked like Everton were going to hold on for the win, the Canaries struck.
Kei Kamara, on loan from Sporting Kansas City, weaved through the Everton defense on a corner and smashed a ridiculously powerful header past a helpless Tim Howard. Fellaini failed to pick up Kamara's run and never got off his feet to challenge the striker. It's Kamara's first EPL goal and it's definitely one to remember.
But Norwich wasn’t done.
In the 94th minute, on basically the last kick of the match, Sebastien Bassong sent a cross into the box that fell right onto the foot of Grant Holt who had cleared out space inside a trio over Everton defenders with the help of Kamara. Holt never hesitated a blasted a shot past Howard to give Norwich the victory and send Carrow Road into a frenzy.
