Nike has your small-sided game covered on all surfaces

Nike has always taken the fast-paced, small-sided world of soccer seriously (look at the old Ronaldinho/Joga Bonito videos) but now they’ve thrown down the cards and are going all in.

If full-strength teams and 11-a-side games aren’t your thing, don’t worry! Nike has just announced the newest iterations in their lines of futsal, street, and turf shoes and guess what: they look good. Bright is a bit of an understatement for these but you won’t be able to find a soul (or sole, pardon the pun, whatever) that will say you don’t stand out in them.

The launch of the new boots is complemented by the creation of Nike’s FC247, a “new range of football performance and street footwear geared for the variety of surfaces on which the game is played, each with design innovations specific to respective playing style.”

First up: The Bomba Finale II, the turf specialist. It’s orange, black, leaner, and meaner, using 27% less components than the original Bomba Finale. As a result, it is more flexible, softer, and 10% lighter, featuring a mix of conical and molded studs. It also utilizes the new “NIKESKIN” tech which is basically a polyurethane skin layered over a performance mesh to create a lighter shoe with no stitching.

Next: The Elastico Finale II, a mint and pink hard-court behemoth where the devil is in the detail. The newest iteration of the Elastico features a more flexible outsole than the previous version (which was already pretty flexible) and is designed specifically for those basketball court-type surfaces, It features a “herringbone and dot design to help maximize traction and improve underfoot ball control.” The upper is perforated, as is the heel, to facilitate breathing, and the is designed specifically to catch the eye.

Finally: The Lunar Gato II, a blue and neon green all-surface beast. Following the trend, it’s lighter and uses 33% fewer components. Where this one steps away from Nike’s other hard-surface offerings is in the upper. The Gato features full-grain leather that will mold (a bit) to your feet but will also breathe and usually takes less time to break in.
