Monaco’s post-promotion spending spree continued with the addition of defender Richardo Carvalho. At least this time it’s a free transfer.

Carvalho has spent the last three seasons with Real Madrid and breaks away from the trend of follow Jose Mourinho to his next job. The defender started his career with FC Porto and helped lead them to the 2004 UEFA Champions League title. He followed Mourinho to Chelsea in the summer of 2004 and spent six season in London before reuniting with Mourinho at Real Madrid in 2010.
In a brief statement on Monaco’s website, Carvalho expressed his excitement about joining the newly promoted club:
“I’m very happy to join AS Monaco FC and to be part of the new adventure. This is a new challenge for me”.
Carvalho is the latest addition in Monaco's summer spending spree joining fellow Portguese player João Moutinho and Colombia's James Rodriguez. The signing of Radamel Falcao is expected to be announced very soon as well.
