La Liga Week 38: Real Sociedad takes fourth, Celta Vigo avoids relegation

Nacho Insa’s 14th minute goal was not only the lone strike of the match, it was the single most precious goal for Celta Vigo all season. Thanks to Depor’s loss against Real, Celta pulled off the final day great escape and will remain in the top flight next season.

Antoine Griezmann’s 21st minute shot off the inside of the post gave Real Sociedad a win and moved them into fourth place, earning the Txuri-urdin a spot in next season’s Champions League. For Depor it’s a crushing blow as they were relegated to the Segunda División.

Osasuna fought back early in the second half when the Madrid defense failed to close down on Roberto Torres on the edge of the area. The 24-year-old midfielder cut inside and blasted a low shot into the lower right corner past a diving Jesus Fernandez.

The visitors equalized in the 63rd minute after a ball into the box was headed on by Manuel Omwu to Álvaro Cejudo who headed the ball down into the bottom corner past Fernandez.

We’ve reached the final day of the La Liga season and unlike that snoozer in England, we’ve got plenty going on that’s worthy of your attention. A Champions League spot is still up for grabs along with a Europa League spot. No one has been relegated and four teams will go into their matches with a shot at surviving or slipping to the second division next season.
