La Liga Saturday: Granada picks up key points, Valencia keeps up the chase for fourth place

Granada is the big winner of the day pulling off an upset of Malaga that moves them closer to avoiding relegation. Valencia also got a big win that allows them to keep pace with Real Sociedad in the battle for fourth.

The race for fourth place appears to be coming down to two teams as Valencia win to keep pressure of Real Sociedad while Malaga slumped in a loss to Granada. Deportivo La Coruña picked up a point off Atletico but still remain in danger of being relegated. Here's a recap of the action from today in La Liga.

Valencia 4-0 Osasuna

Valencia remained right in the hunt for fourth place with a 4-0 thrashing of Osasuna today at the Estadio Mestalla. It took a bit for Los Che to get going but once Roberto Soldado opened the scoring in the 39th minute, the floodgates opened. Ricardo Costa added a second right before the break and Ever Banega and Jonas added goals in the second half to secure the points. Osasuna remain in serious danger of relegation only two points off the drop.

Granada 1-0 Malaga

Odion Ighalo’s 28th minute goal was all Granada needed to pull off a huge win in their attempt to stave off relegation. El Graná moved up to 15th, four points clear of the drop zone, while Malaga failed to keep pace with Valenica as they pursue fourth place.

Granada's goal came after Yacine Brahimi's was not dealt with by the Malaga defense, allowing Ighalo to get in front of Martin Demichelis and one time a shot back Wilfredo Caballero.

Real Madrid 4-3 Real Valladolid

Deportivo La Coruña 0-0 Atletico Madrid

Depor managed to take a point off third place Atletico Madrid but they could still end up back in the bottom three depending on what Real Zaragoza does tomorrow. It was not the prettiest game by any stretch but the Galacians will likely feel a little hard done by having been denied three penalty shouts, one of which seemed a definite foul in replays.

Atletico meanwhile secured a Champions League place for next season and need just six more points to guarantee a third place finish and an automatic place in the group stages.
