Getafe vs. Real Sociedad: Final score 2-1, Azulones jump back in the European race
Real Sociedad remain in fourth but their lead over Valencia is now only two points with four weeks to play after they were downed 2-1 by Getafe.
Getafe had barely gotten into the match when Real struck in the fourth minute. Antoine Griezmann's cross from the left was finished off with a diving header from Carlos Vela who'd gotten past his marker.
It was all downhill from there for Real.
Getafe pulled level at 1-1 in the 18th minute when Real were caught over-rotated to the left and an errant back pass by midfielder Markel Bergara rolled right into the path of Pedro Leon who fired a shot past the diving Claudio Bravo.
Getafe went ahead for good six minutes from halftime when Bravo left a huge rebound after saving Lafita’s initial effort form the edge of the area. Abdelaziz Barrada caught Real’s defense flat footed and he jumped on the loose ball, sending it past Bravo who was stil on the ground.
Real came close twice in the final minutes but were unable to salvage a point after Carlos Martinez missed wide with a header and Griezmann’s close range effort went over the cross bar.
