Inter Milan vs Lazio, Preview: Fallen giants aiming for top six finish

Already down to the bare bones, Andrea Stramaccioni will send his injury stricken side out against Lazio knowing that another defeat will signal an end to any hopes of playing European football next season.

The Nerazzurri currently sit 8th in Serie A, two points behind their visitors and four shy of the Europa League places. Sunday's defeat at Napoli was Inter's fourth in their last five games and their 14th league setback overall. One more defeat will signal their worst set of losses ever suffered in a domestic campaign.

Lazio are yet to win a Serie A match away from the Stadio Olimpico in 2013, but brushed Bologna aside 6-0 at the weekend thanks to a five goal haul from a rejuvenated Miroslav Klose. The Eagles came out 1-0 victors when the two teams met in Rome mid-December, thanks to a goal from the veteran German.

Should the Biancocelesti lose at the San Siro - a fixture they’ve failed to win in over 14 years, they still have the Coppa Italia final to fall back on as a possible route into Europe.

There have been no additions to the already crowded Inter medical room, although Antonio Cassano is not yet ready to return and has been left out of the squad. Tommaso Rocchi will face his former club after sitting out the Napoli defeat to recover from a knock. He remains the only fit recognised striker in the squad. Esteban Cambiasso should start after coming on as a second half substitute at the weekend.

Lazio welcome Giuseppe Biava back from suspension and travel with near enough the same squad that demolished Bologna.

Serie A is off to a roiling start (as long as you ignore Juventus). Also, a modest proposal to fix English football governance.
