Leicester City vs. Watford, 2013 Championship playoff semi-final: Preview and TV Schedule

Leicester City take on Watford in the first leg of the Championship playoffs to decide the third team to win promotion to the Premier League.

Michael Regan

Watford will be sweating on the fitness of their goalkeepers when they take on Leicester City after both were injured in the dramatic last day of the Championship season.

Jonathan Bond and Manuel Almunia are both racing back to be fit, so Watford may have to take on Leicester with a depleted side that will also be missing their key striker Troy Deeney. With Leicester already enjoying the home advantage, the Foxes will hope to put themselves in as good a position as possible in this first leg.

With Watford likely to have those players back for the second leg, they may simply try to avoid suffering a heavy defeat, but with the likes of Almen Abdi and Jonathan Hogg still available, they still have the quality to get a result, and the winner of this tie will likely be the favourite in the final.

Leicester City injuries and suspensions

In doubt: Ritchie de Laet (calf), Paul Konchesky (hernia).

Watford injuries and suspensions

Out: Troy Deeney (suspended) In doubt: Manuel Almunia (hamstring), Jonathan Bond (broken nose)

Leicester City will welcome back loan duo Michael Keane and Harry Kane, and could also see Ritchie de Laet and Paul Konchesky return to the starting lineup after the pair were back in training this week.

Watford are sweating over the fitness of their keepers - Jonathan Bond is likely to be available, thanks to the use of a face-mask, while Manuel Almunia, the first-choice keeper, is a big doubt with a hamstring injury. Their striker, Troy Deeney, is also unavailable for the first leg through suspension.
