USA vs. Germany: Lineups

Jürgen Klinsmann is in heavy experimentation mode against Germany.

USA TODAY Sports

The United States experimented with an odd lineup in training on Saturday and has stuck with it for their friendly against Germany. Seattle Sounders midfielder Brad Evans starts at right back, while regular left back Fabian Johnson plays on the left side of midfield, in front of natural winger DaMarcus Beasley, who keeps his spot at left back. Matt Besler replaces Clarence Goodson in the back, while Michael Bradley comes into the team after sitting out against Belgium.

Germany don’t have most of their best players and are playing a lineup that will probably never be seen again, but Die Mannschaft has enough depth that the team they’re putting out on the pitch is still an excellent matchup for the United States.

United States lineup (4-2-3-1): Tim Howard; DaMarcus Beasley, Matt Besler, Omar Gonzalez, Brad Evans; Michael Bradley, Jermaine Jones; Fabian Johnson, Clint Dempsey, Graham Zusi; Jozy Altidore

Germany lineup (4-2-3-1): Marc-Andre ter Stegen; Marcell Jansen, Benedikt Höwedes, Per Mertesacker, Sven Bender; Lars Bender, Stefan Reinartz; Andre Schürrle, Julian Draxler, Lukas Podolski; Miroslav Klose
