Laurent Blanc appointed as new manager of Paris Saint-Germain

Former France manager Laurent Blanc has replaced the outgoing Carlo Ancelotti at Paris Saint-Germain.

Laurent Blanc has taken over from Carlo Ancelotti at French champions Paris Saint-Germain after the latter succeeded Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid. Tottenham and Russia managers André Villas-Boas and Fabio Capello were both reportedly approached for the position, though both rejected PSG’s advances, and Blanc ended up as the only viable candidate.

It is only Blanc’s third coaching job in all, and second at domestic level. He impressed greatly in a three-year stint at Bordeaux from 2007 to 2010, winning a double of the league title and Coupe de la Ligue in 2008-09, as well as winning Manager of the Year the season before.

However, he was less successful when rewarded with the post at the head of the national team, resigning after a two-year stint when knocked out of Euro 2012 at the quarter-finals. During the relatively short-lived tenure, Blanc’s man-management was called into question, and with so many big names crammed into the Parc des Princes, he’ll have to handle the dressing room egos better.
