AS Roma were interested in Massimiliano Allegro to fill their vacant managerial position, but chose to stay at AC Milan. On Sunday night, he met with director Adriano Galliani and owner Silvio Berlusconi, the latter of whom likes to meddle in team affairs more than most owners do. As they discussed Allegri’s potential continued employment with the club, Berlusconi apparently dropped this gem.

Sky reports that Berlusconi told Allegri (during their dinner last Sunday) to use the 4-3-1-2 formation next season.

Where does Berlusconi want Stephan El Shaarawy to play in this 4-3-1-2? Does he want to continue playing Riccardo Montolivo as a crappy modified attacking midfielder? Is he going to sign any good central players for Allegri to use in this 4-3-1-2 formation, or does he want Sulley Muntari to magically become good again?
Why do people with other job prospects choose to work for a club where an owner with no background in football tells the coach what formation to pick? Berlusconi is probably one of those people who thinks ‘formation’ is a synonym for ‘tactics’.
Allegri should have gotten out, but he didn’t, and you shouldn’t feel bad for him when he gets canned for having the audacity to set up his team in a formation other than 4-3-1-2.
