Jamaica went into the break down 1-0, but they wouldn't have been too discouraged with the first half, especially after a long spell of pressure that put Tim Howard's goal under serious threat more than once. The hosts sprung out of the blocks in the second half, shooting just wide via Jermaine Johnson and then Austin Randolph. And the shots weren't all Howard had to worry about -- not for the first time in the match, the fullbacks were under severe threat.
Jamaica vs. USA: Jermaine Jones suffers head injury, departs
Johnson caused serious problems when he blew past DaMarcus Beasley only to waste his chance and see his cutback cleared for a corner. The United States -- against the run of play -- replied with a corner of their own, and Jozy Altidore came close with an acrobatic effort at the far post that nearly caught out Donovan Ricketts. Just why the Reggae Boys decided not to mark the goalscorer is a bit of a mystery.
That was just a brief reprieve for the US. Jamaica went back on the attack, forcing another corner, and this time Jermaine Jones took a Daniel Gordon elbow to the head. The big midfielder stayed down, forcing a substitution. Stoke City's Geoff Cameron will be the man to replace him... which ok then.
