Trinidad and Tobago is headed to the Gold Cup quarterfinals for only the second time in their history thanks to a 2-0 win over Honduras on Tuesday night. Goals by Kenwyne Jones and Kevin Molino fired the Soca Warriors to victory, which propelled them to second place in Group B and a spot in the knockout stages. Honduras had already clinched first place in the group.

A win over Honduras fired Trinidad and Tobago to the Gold Cup quarterfinals for just the second time ever.

El Salvador are quarterfinals bound thanks to their 1-0 win over Haiti The match turned in the 37th minute when Jose Velasquez hacked down Cornell Glen with an awful tackle from behind. The referee rightly showed Velasquez a red card for his dangerous challenge and Honduras had to play more than 50 minutes with 10 men.
Trinidad and Tobago had the upper hand even before they went up a man as Jones gave the Catrachos back line fits, but his finishing left plenty to be desired. Honduras wasn’t taking the match especially serious, resting a few of their first choice players and it showed as the Soca Warriors dominated.
Once Velasquez was shown the door, Honduras never had a chance. The looks at goal kept coming for Trinidad and Tobago and when Orin Peralta shoved Glen in front of goal, the Soca Warriors got the goal they deserved. The referee whistled for a penalty and Jones buried the spot kick to put T&T in front.
Jones set up the Soca Warriors’ second tally when he received a ball at the top of the box and beautifully played it in for Molino with his first touch. Molino, who was in along on goal, calmly slotted the ball home and Trinidad and Tobago was home free to a win and a rare spot in the Gold Cup quarterfinals.
