Paris Saint-Germain complete signing of Marquinhos

Paris Saint-Germain have splashed out to land Roma’s young centre-back Marquinhos after his great season in Serie A.

Paris Saint-Germain have signed Marquinhos from Roma for €32 million -- potentially rising by a further €3 million -- on a five-year contract. The Brazilian centre-back joins the French champions despite being linked with moves to Barcelona and Manchester United, and leaves the giallorossi only a season after arriving.

However, the 19-year-old -- who Roma signed for €4.5 million from Corinthians last summer -- demonstrated a maturity well above his years in his season in Serie A. Appearing in 26 league games in total, Marquinhos came to establish himself above the vastly more experienced Nicolás Burdisso as a regular in defence.

The fee PSG have paid makes him one of the most expensive defenders in history, though there's no question that Laurent Blanc will have one of the most talented young defenders around in his squad next season -- and a player who Roma have preemptively moved to replace. They've already confirmed defensive reinforcements Mehdi Benatia and Tin Jedvaj this summer, filling in the Marquinhos-shaped hole as best they can.
