Anzhi Makhachkala announced on their website that they had accepted Guus Hiddink’s offer of resignation. The Dutch coach had been at the club since February last year, and leaves the position to former Manchester United first team coach René Meulensteen.

Dutch coach Guus Hiddink has left Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala after a year in charge.

Hiddink leaves Anzhi just two games into the Russian Premier League season, with this strange timing sparking rumours that the 66-year-old could become the new Barcelona manager. The position at Camp Nou is vacant after the recent departure of Tito Vilanova, though there seems to be nothing else yet to suggest Hiddink has been considered for the position.
Hiddink's post at Anzhi was his first permanent club coaching job since 2006, having recently taken charge of a string of national sides alongside a caretaker position at Chelsea in 2009. He has prior management experience in Spain, spending a few seasons at Valencia before short spells at Real Madrid and Real Betis.
