FIFA announced today the lifting on the suspension against the Cameroonian Football Association that had been put in place in early July.

The CAF was able to resume business today after FIFA’s normalization committee began the work of monitoring the federation’s activities.

A normalization committee was appointed by FIFA on July 20 and began work at the FECAFOOT headquarters Monday with officials from both FIFA and the CAF present. The lifting of the suspension allows Cameroonian clubs, officials and representatives to resume all activities that had been stopped due to the suspension.
FIFA originally suspended the CAF after the controversial Cameroonian FA presidential elections in which Iya Mohammed’s re-election was annulled by FECAFOOT’s Elections Appeals Committee. Mohammed is facing charges of mismanaging funds of a state-owned cotton company.
While the CAF is now able to continue their business after spending most of the month in limbo awaiting FIFA’s decision, they will remain under monitoring for the foreseeable future. The normalization committee assigned by FIFA will be headed by Joseph Owona and is set to remain in place until March 2014.
