Napoli have plenty of cash in their pockets after selling Edinson Cavani, with owner Aurelio De Laurentiis announcing that the club have €124m available to spend on potential new transfers. So is it really surprising that the partenopei appear poised to pay €37m for Gonzalo Higuaín?
Napoli set to pay through the nose for Gonzalo Higuaín
Gonzalo Higuaín has already been linked with Arsenal and Juventus this summer, but Napoli are the club ready to flash the cash. Can they work out a deal with Real Madrid?

For the past month, it's seemed Arsenal were in pole position to net the Argentine striker, but the Gunners aren't prepared to spend even €30m. Juventus were even more stingy, only offering Real Madrid €22m to secure Higuaín's services. But now that Napoli are positively flush with cash, and desperate to find a Cavani replacement, they'll overpay for Pipita.
But it's still uncertain whether Real Madrid wish to sell. New boss Carlo Ancelotti, who wants to keep Higuaín, has denied there's a deal in place with the Italian club. Higuaín himself is said to favor a move to Arsenal. So even if Napoli has the pen poised over their checkbook, they still might lose out on this one.
