UEFA Champions League 2nd round qualifying is complete and we’ve had one big surprise from this round of the latest edition of the tournament.

BATE Borisov were unceremoniously dumped from the Champions League, suffering an aggregate defeat against Kazakh side Shakhter Karagandy. Celtic and Viktoria Plzen both advanced to the third round.


BATE Borisov, who’ve become something of a regular in the group stages, were ousted by Shakhter Karagandy 2-0 over two legs. Igor Zenkovich’s 82nd minute strike sealed the victory for Karagandy and sent the Kazakh club on to the next round.
Scottish champions Celtic moved on to the next round after an easy 2-0 second leg victory over Ciftonville that gave the Hoops are 5-0 aggregate victory. Viktoria Plzen managed get an away victory and avoid an embarrassing defeat after giving up three away goals in the first leg against Zeljeznicar Sarajevo. Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Maribor both advanced as well.
