Fiorentina want Mario Gómez, but Bayern Munich refuse to lower the €20m asking price they've set for the forward. The viola might be able to pay more than €18m for their man, but it's likely they'll have to sell Stevan Jovetic before putting in a renewed bid. However, with Juventus landing Carlos Tevez, they're less willing to pay through the nose for the Montenegrin attacker. Napoli, too, are interested in Jovetic, but not as interested as they are in...Gómez.

Just to add another twist to this plot, Napoli owner Aurelio Di Laurentiis will have plenty of cash to splash around should the anticipated sale of Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint Germain go through. With El Matador's release clause set at €63m, the partenopei could afford Gómez and a couple of decent defenders.
Gómez, for his part, has stated his preference for Fiorentina. But if they're not willing to raise their offer, it doesn't much matter what his preference might be. Unless they move JoJo through quickly, they're likely to lose out on the German international. Which should make Rafa Benitez happy: Gómez is a more like-for-like replacement for Cavani, and would fit better in the new Napoli boss's system.
