Nile Ranger charged with rape, to appear in court next month
Former Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger has been charged with rape, police have confirmed.

Northumbria Police announced the news after the force opened an investigation, saying in a statement: “A rape was reported to police on Thursday 24 January, 2013, and relates to an incident which happened in the early hours of Wednesday 23 January at a hotel in Jesmond.
“Nile Ranger, 22, of Bailey Close, Harringay, London, has been charged with rape. He is due to appear before Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on 21 August.”
Ranger, who is currently a free agent after being released by Newcastle in March, is a former England Under-19 international and has been looking for a new club. The 22-year-old had once been thought of as one of the brightest prospects at St. James’ Park, but has struggled to fulfil his potential lately and attracted much controversy with several off-field incidents.
