After breaking onto the scene with five goals and seven assists in just a tick over 1,000 minutes last year, expectations were quite high for the Columbus Crew's Federico Higuain. On a per minute basis, Higuain's production is only about half of what it was last year and the Crew have slumped their way out of playoff position.
Federico Higuain chips Luis Robles from edge of penalty area
Perfectly executed chip from 18 yards out helps give Crew win over Red Bulls.
Of course, the Argentinian is still capable of moments of brilliance as he showed in the Crew's 2-0 upset of the New York Red Bulls on Saturday. Higuain scored both goal, with the second coming on an absolutely spectacular chip from the edge of the penalty area while on a full run (video above). Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles seemed to play it fine, but the chip was absolutely perfect in its execution.
The pair of goals give Higuain seven goals on the season, finally surpassing his total from a year ago. The win also gave the Crew 26 points, which pulled them to within seven points of the fifth-place Houston Dynamo. No, this is not where player or club wanted to be at this stage, but at least it's a step in the right direction.
