West Ham United have reportedly paid around £6 million to sign Stewart Downing from Liverpool, with the winger arriving on a four-year contract. The England international had struggled to hold down a first team place at Anfield after Kenny Dalglish paid £20 million to sign him from Aston Villa in 2011, and has departed after two seasons.

West Ham have completed the signing of Liverpool winger Stewart Downing, for a reported fee of £6 million.

Liverpool's recent signing of Sevilla's young winger Luis Alberto looked set to marginalise Downing further, with the 29-year-old deciding to pack his bags in search of regular football. He should slot straight into Sam Allardyce's starting 11 at Upton Park, where he'll look to prove his worth after a relatively unsuccessful spell at Anfield.
Downing is an able crosser, and is expected to start on the left of Allardyce's attacking trident at West Ham. He should fit into the Hammers' direct style of wing-play, looking to provide assists for his former Liverpool teammate Andy Carroll, who was snapped up by West Ham for a club-record fee of £15 million this summer.
