MLS 2013, Week 25 preview and fixtures: The relegation battle heats up

If only MLS had relegation...

John Geliebter-USA TODAY Sports

The relegation race in MLS is heating up. D.C. are already on their way down, but Chicago are playing for their lives in an empty football stadium this weekend, while Chivas USA may be relegated, if they still exist next year. Nobody cares if either happens, so long as one does.

Doesn’t MLS with relegation sound amazing?

Montreal Impact vs. D.C. United

Saturday, 7 p.m. ET - MLS Live

Relegate D.C.

Pick: Not D.C., 100-0.

New England Revolution vs. Chicago Fire

Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET - MLS Live

If the Revolution make the playoffs, Jose Goncalves deserves a Mercedes. Bob Kraft will probably buy him a bike instead, but at least it's something.

Pick: New England, 1-0.

Columbus Crew vs. Toronto FC

Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET - MLS Live

Why?

Pick: No.

New York Red Bulls vs. Philadelphia Union

Saturday, 8 p.m. ET - NBC Sports Network

Houston Dynamo vs. Seattle Sounders

Saturday, 9 p.m. ET - MLS Live

Clint Dempsey is likely to make his first start for the Sounders ... against Dominic Kinnear, the man who twice bested his Revolution teams in the MLS Cup final.

Pick: Draw, 1-1.

Colorado Rapids vs. Vancouver Whitecaps

Saturday, 9:30 p.m. ET - MLS Live

Consider where these two teams were last June and where they are now.

Pick: Colorado, 2-0.

LA Galaxy vs. Real Salt Lake

Saturday, 10:30 p.m. ET - MLS Live

"Now that Omar Gonzalez is a Designated Player, he will step his game up," said no one ever. Alvaro Saborio can't wait to score his 80-something minute equalizer.

Pick: Salt Lake, 2-2.

Portland Timbers vs. FC Dallas

Saturday, 11 p.m. ET - MLS Live

The battle to be America’s pre-eminent college coach.

Pick: Caleb Porter, 2-0.

San Jose Earthquakes vs. Sporting Kansas City

Sunday, 10 p.m. ET - Univision Deportes

A year ago, we would be calling this a MLS Cup preview. Good job, good effort, Quakes.

Pick: Kansas City, 2-1.
